Jeff is an anti-hero who tries but invariably fails. His hopes and dreams are now only fading memories, and none of them fulfilled.
When faced with a decision he dithers and then inevitably makes the wrong choice.
“I used to be indecisive but now I’m not so sure.”
If there is water in the vicinity he will find it and fall in. Seagulls empty their bellies on his head as a matter of course, apparently thinking it to be the thing to do.
“Those same gulls have circled over my head through all these years to give me new droppings just to remind me of what my station in life was to be – as though I needed reminding.”
He was the only rock musician in the heady 60’s who lived through them in a state of frustrated celibacy, much to his own disappointment and his fellow musicians’ hysterical delight.
With a wily Welsh witch as grandmother, a father and uncle with a penchant for entertaining their fellow man in high heels and tights and a mother with a fondness for wandering off to look for the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow, the odds were definitely stacked against our hero from day one.

“Is it any wonder I turned to drink?”

Certainly a frustrating existence, but just as surely a fun account of a life that could have been worse - although admittedly, not much.
